Landmines of Love: Navigating the Grey of Eldercare
CONNECT WITH NAWBO COLUMBUS & BOOST YOUR BUSINESS!
Caring for aging parents or loved ones can feel like walking through a field of emotional and practical landmines. This session offers guidance for caregivers and families to approach the journey with clarity, compassion, and resilience. Together, we’ll explore:
- Myths & Proactive Planning: How to move beyond “we’ll figure it out later” and start important conversations before crisis strikes.
- Family Dynamics & Psychology: Why old family roles and conflicts resurface—and how to navigate them with awareness and empathy.
- Advocacy in Action: Key areas where caregivers can and should speak up—healthcare, housing, finances, and legal planning.
- Care for the Caregiver: Practical strategies and resources to prevent burnout and prioritize your own well-being.
- Respite & Support Networks: Where to find community, professional guidance, and trusted resources to help lighten the load.
As women business owners, we’re already balancing businesses, families, and community commitments. When eldercare needs arise, the responsibility often falls to us—siblings may assume we have the skills, flexibility, or extra time to take it on. This added layer makes the journey uniquely challenging for women entrepreneurs.
Alison began her entrepreneurial journey over 30 years ago by founding Forche Law and Mediation, specializing in divorce, custody, and eldercare mediation. She also managed her husband’s business for over 15 years while raising their children, Ashley and Dylan.
Certified as a personal trainer and yoga instructor, Alison has been an active part of the local yoga community for over 13 years. She holds a Baptiste certification and teaches SEL-based children’s yoga and yoga for seniors and individuals with cognitive and physical limitations.
Alison combines her mediation expertise with her passion for yoga and mindfulness, supporting families and teaching yoga to all ages. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Rob, their children, Dylan and Ashley, and son-in-law, Matt. Her interests include teaching yoga, writing, meditation, hiking, skiing, reading, and community volunteering.
She mentors teens and serves on the Boards of the National Association of Women Business Owners Columbus Chapter and Make a Day Foundation, which aids the homeless in Central Ohio.
